The Zimmer, Inc. Durom Cup (also known as Durom Acetabular Component) was phased out of the market. The company cited low sales as the reason. However, in the spring of 2008, Dr. Lawrence Dorr with the Dorr Institute for Arthritis Research and Educational Foundation found that an increasing number of his patients needed revision surgeries after having the Durom Cup implanted. He sent letteres to members of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons warning them of the failure rates. It was only then that Zimmer Inc. announced it would stop selling the Durom Cup.
