Pradaxa (dabigatran)

Use: acts as a blood “thinner” and is promoted to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation

Issue: Pradaxa has also been reported to cause internal bleeding without the emergent surgery problem. The bleeding can be serious, and sometimes leads to death.

FDA Action/Recommendation: The FDA Recommends you read the Medication Guide regarding Pradaxa which was produced by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2011.  This guide explains the risks associated with taking Pradaxa.
