A 24-year-old St. Petersburg driver of a Lamborghini, along with a Winter Haven passenger in that vehicle, both lost their lives in a Lakeland motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday, February 3, after the Lamborghini crossed a grassy median and crashed into a Nissan driven by another St. Petersburg woman. The second St. Petersburg driver sustained severe personal injuries and was transported to a Tampa-area hospital, where she was reportedly in critical condition.

According to a report from the Tampa Bay Times, investigators have found no early evidence that intoxication was involved, although typically, Florida officials will make a final determination on this issue after an autopsy of the driver. However, the newspaper described the Lamborghini as “destroyed,” stating that the force of this deadly car accident “scattered debris for 1,000 feet.” While reports are silent on the issue, the destruction of the Lamborghini will likely cause accident reconstructionists to examine whether it was traveling at excessive speeds.

In Florida, a motor vehicle accident that results from the violation of traffic safety laws such as speed limits could leave the driver open to personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits based on negligence — the failure to exercise ordinary care for the safety of others. In this case, such Florida lawsuits could be filed against the estate of the deceased Lamborghini driver and that driver’s motor vehicle liability insurance carrier, by both the injured Nissan driver as well as the estate of the deceased passenger in the Lamborghini.

If you or someone you love has been injured or killed in a Tampa or South Florida motor vehicle accident caused by another driver’s negligence, you could be entitled to recover monetary compensation for personal injury or wrongful death damages. Compensation may be available for expenses like funeral bills, medical bills, lost wages, lost future earnings, the lost family support of a loved one, or the pain and suffering endured as the result of a catastrophic Florida auto accident.
