Introduction

Good afternoon! Steve Brooks here. Thank you for joining me today on Inside Look by Brooks. Today, we’re going to talk about motorcycle accidents. Now, motorcycle accidents are some of the worst accidents that we as personal injury attorneys come across. And I can tell you that growing up, my dad was an internal medicine doctor and I can remember him going to the emergency room on weekends and nights when he was on call. Now, growing up he would always talk about how dangerous motorcycles were because he saw the ends result in the emergency room and he would never let my brother or sisters or me to have or drive a motorcycle while I was growing up. Now, I enjoy motorcycle riding. There’s nothing as freeing or as fun as a motorcycle, but there’s a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it.

“Florida Motorcycle Accidents” Authored By Steve Brooks And Joe Stromeyer

Matter of fact, I teamed up with Joe Stromeyer from Joe’s Motorcycle School and we wrote a book a couple of years ago called “Florida Motorcycle Accidents.” If you want a copy, just shoot me an email at [email protected] and I’ll give you… just say motorcycle book, and we’ll send you a motorcycle book. Just make sure you give me your address, so we can send it to the right place. But I wanted to write a book because we see a number of motorcycle accidents as attorneys, and we wrote it from two angles: when you’re in an accident – what tips; and that was mainly Joe’s role in writing the book – and then I wrote the book on what to do if you’re in an accident: how to perfect your case and how to make it better. As we all know, motorcycle accidents, because you don’t have the protection of a car around you – you don’t have the engine block in front of you, you don’t have the fenders or the bumpers. It’s really just you; you’re out there in the wind. Whatever you run into, whether it’s a semi-truck, a car, another motorcycle, or a sign; it’s not going to be pretty. I have some pretty startling statistics to talk about today. Back when I wrote this book, we had researched the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and for every 100,000 cars registered in the US, 13 people end up in fatal crashes. Out of 100,000 motorcycles, the number is a staggering 5x greater – 72 deaths. So literally riding a motorcycle is 500% greater, when you’re involved in an accident, of being killed. Really, that’s logic. You don’t have the protection of the car around you. Just being injured in a motorcycle versus a car is 35x greater. In Florida, we’re one of the states where we’re warm year round and we don’t require helmets, so there’s a lot of motorcycle activity year round. As a law firm, we see a lot of head injuries and death. We see a lot of concussion, broken limbs, facial misconfiguration. Out of all the motorcycle accidents, 43% of them are serious – death, broken bone, scarring, facial disfigurement. You definitely are taking your life in your own hands when riding a motorcycle. In this book, Joe did a great job of authoring, writing tips on how to avoid accidents, what the Florida laws are, what insurance you can buy. It’s a great book and it provides a lot of insight on how to be a safer driver and what to do when you’re involved in an accident. What we’ve found helpful is to get someone out to the accident scene to review the accident – road conditions, ending vehicle conditions: those are all important things.

Act Fast

Vehicles that are in wrecks disappear and parts get lost. So it’s important to get a team out their quickly to review the evidence, get pictures of the evidence, if an expert is require get an expert where the evidence is. You don’t want to wait to do that. 98% of people involved in a motorcycle accident, coming from the same study, get injuries. So, you have almost 100% chance of getting an injury if involved in a motorcycle accident – 45% of those are going to be serious. I just plead with all my fellow motorcycle riding buddies, brothers and sister, to be careful out there. Refresh your memory on how to avoid an accident.

Conclusion

Shoot me an email and I’ll send you this free book. If you have any questions about motorcycle accidents or if we can help you in anyway, my email is [email protected]. We deal with a lot of motorcycle cases. We are an all injury law firm, so injury law is the only area we practice and we only do it from the plaintiff’s perspective; we only represent injured plaintiffs. Thank you for joining me today and I look forward to seeing you next time on Friday’s edition of Inside Look by Brooks.
