Plant City’s Strawberry Festival – Stay Safe!

Categories:Auto Accidents, Motorcycle Accidents, Pedestrian Accidents, Semi Truck Accidents

Plant City’s Strawberry Festival has been here for a little over a week and will be ending this Sunday, March 11th. Throughout its course, many of you have experienced the delays on Interstate 4 at certain times in the afternoon and the back-ups on the exits in the area. Some of you who live closer to its location have had to leave your house earlier than usual to carry out errands or to go to work. For example, the attorney at our Tampa Office, Beach A. Brooks, III, had to come to our Winter Haven location on Tuesday afternoon. This meant that he had to drive on I-4 right past the exits to the Strawberry Festival so he made plans to leave a few minutes before he normally does when traveling to Winter Haven.

As Plant City’s Strawberry Festival is coming to an end traffic is bound to get worse on Interstate 4. People will be driving in from other areas to get a last minute experience at this year’s festival. With this in mind, I want to remind you to stay safe!

The top 5 reasons for car accidents

Most car accidents happen for 1 or more of the following reasons:

  • Drunk Driving – 1/3 of all crashes that result in death in the United States involve a drunk driver

  • Distracted Driving – including eating or drinking, texting, watching videos

  • Not using a turn Signal

  • Speeding

  • Failure to Yield – to both, other drivers and pedestrians

Remember… we don’t expect accidents to happen and hope they never do, but, like people say – “things happen”.

Here are some things that you can do to be safer on the road:

  • Don’t tailgate! Make sure to leave enough space between you and the car in front

  • Give yourself enough time just in case you run in to traffic

  • Always be aware of your surroundings, be alert!

  • Make complete stops

  • Always yield when you’re supposed to

  • Use your turning signals and headlights

  • Stay awake!
